Our purpose

Puzzlewhistlereel.online is an independent information website published by Puzzlewhistlereel Marine Media Ltd. We write for vessel maintenance readers, technical managers and people evaluating inspection technology who need a clear account of the workflow rather than another promise of effortless automation.

Our organising question is simple: can another person follow a finding from its source image through assessment to a justified next action? That question keeps the discussion grounded in evidence, human responsibility and durable records.

Four boundaries we keep visible

  1. Capture is not coverage. A camera’s route does not prove that every relevant surface was visible.
  2. Detection is not diagnosis. A model label is an interpretation to review, not a final condition statement.
  3. Assessment is not authorisation. A maintenance decision belongs to the responsible competent parties.
  4. Completion is not automatically verification. The record must show what was done and how the intended result was checked.

“Explain the uncertainty at the point where a reader might otherwise mistake it for certainty.”

Sources and attribution

We link to standards bodies, maritime administrations and classification societies where their remit helps readers locate primary material. A reference is not a claim of endorsement or affiliation. We do not reproduce a rule’s full requirements or suggest that a general article establishes compliance.

Readers should consult current editions and vessel-specific requirements. Standards, acceptance arrangements and technology change. Named organisations retain responsibility for their own publications; our summaries are editorial explanations.

What this site does not provide

We do not perform vessel inspections, certify model performance, approve repairs or determine seaworthiness. We do not publish invented inspection success rates or imply that photographed workers endorse our content. Photographs provide contextual imagery, not evidence about a particular vessel.

Corrections and useful questions

If a statement is unclear or technically inaccurate, identify the page, the disputed wording and a primary source where possible. Do not include confidential vessel records or personal information about crew members. The contact page provides a local letter composer and our editorial address.
